Gorges du Verdon

Sainte Croix Lake

Sainte Croix Lake was created in 1973 after the dam of Sainte Croix was built. This true Verdon's pearl is also extremely well located, at the center of the natural park. Sainte Croix lake will be the major spot of your holliday, especially for your kids to have fun. Obviously you will not be alone in the summer time, but it is big enough to give everyone a nice time. You will be luckier in may and june, and enjoy an absolutely quiet time. As we said, Saint Croix Lake is big enough (but not too big). You will easily find small beaches and places to enjoy a well-deserved swim. However, out of the hollidays, you coud still enjoy the villages beaches on the lake front. The nicest beaches are in Salles sur Verdon (in front of Coste Belle Island) and in Bauduen with its rock out from the water. The waters get warm fast and it is not impossible to swim in the end of April. In summer, the temperature can go up 27°C (80°F) Three villages mark out Sainte Croix lake : Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon, Bauduen and Les Salles-sur-Verdon.
